Hillary Ryder is a Regina born artist and is Assiniboine/Sioux from White Bear First Nation. She taught herself to paint in 2013 when she was 17. She loves to create oil and watercolour portraits, usually decorated in gold metal leaf. Her artwork was shown in First Nations art galleries, Sakewewak Artist’s Collective and Tatanka Boutique. In 2014, she won the Saskewewak Artist Residency along with 3 other artists. She expanded her artistic ability into fashion designing into 2014. She won the first Indigenous bursary award for Saskatchewan Fashion Week in 2017. She paints, beads and gold leafs many of her own garments she sews herself. Hillary strives to be an inspiring young First Nations artist and wants to expand her creativity.
